The EU’s new REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals) Regulations mean that between June and November this year, nearly all ‘substances’ used by EU manufacturers, importers and downstream users must be pre-registered with the European Chemicals Agency.
The process is an element of new legal obligations which stretch to 2018 and beyond.
Companies failing to address them are likely to face improvement notices and potential prohibition.
SES, the health, safety and environmental division of EEF West Midlands, has organised a dedicated half day seminar to explain the new regulation and give practical guidance on compliance. The half day event takes place on Tuesday 15 April from 10.00 hours at EEF West Midlands headquarters in Birmingham. Speakers will include a Health & Safety Executive factory inspector and a regulation specialist from EEF.
REACH is not solely directed at companies which manufacture and supply chemicals. “The regulation potentially impacts on all companies manufacturing, importing or using chemicals right through to the end user,” said SES director Peter Garrett: “Furthermore, compliance is not just a technical issue – sales and purchasing departments need to be aware of its implications. It’s another demand on managers’ time, but it can’t be ignored”
The seminar is relevant to managers across a wide range of activities, including occupational health and safety, operations, legal, sales, purchasing and those responsible for environmental and technical issues. It will explain the systems required by REACH in terms of documentation, and will cover the processes that will be subject to potential examination by inspectors from the Health & Safety Executive, which will be responsible for policing the new regulation.
The fee for the seminar is £90 plus VAT.
